N.L. MVP Nominees:
2B Javier Baez Chicago Cubs
3B Nolan Arenado Colorado Rockies
OF Christian Yelich Milwaukee Brewers
Winner: Christian Yelich
Runner Up: Javier Baez
So yeah this award is pretty much in lock as Yelich had a unstoppable season his first year with the Brewers. Yelich lead the N.L. this season in batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS. Pretty strong case for MVP. Not to mention he had 2 cycles this season. But the cherry on top was his month of September where he got .370, 10 home runs and 33 RBI’s.
A.L. MVP Nominees:
OF Mookie Betts Boston Red Sox
3B Jose Ramirez Cleveland Indians
OF Mike Trout Los Angeles Angles
Winner: Mookie Betts
Runner Up: Mike Trout
So before I give my say on Betts let me get this out first. What’s the point of having a DH in the A.L. if he can’t be a top 3 player in his league. J.D. Martinez had a way better season the Trout or Ramirez, but he won’t get his recognition because he would play the field. What a load of bull crap. J.D. is the only player in MLB history to win the Silver Slugger in 2 different positions. J.D. hit second in the MLB in average and home runs, and finished first in RBI’s.
But if J.D. can’t win it, it’s obviously Mookies award. First in average, first in slugging, and first in runs. He wasn’t my pick for MVP, but he damn sure is my second for J.D.
