Here is my MLB 2019 Offseason Breakdown Blog. This time it is on the Tampa Bay Rays and I will talk about who the Rays acquired and lost, their starting lineup and pitching rotation and my prediction for them this season. Let’s get into the blog.
Offseason Acquisitions and Loses:
Charlie Morton signs a 2 year $25 million contract
The Rays make a nice signing here getting veteran pitcher like Morton. Morton coming off a very strong season with the Astros where he went 15-3 with a 3.13 ERA and had 201 strikeouts. Morton and Blake Snell will be a nice 1-2 combo.
Starting Lineup:
C: Mike Zunino
1B: Ji-Man Choi
2B: Brandon Lowe
3B: Joe Wendle
SS: Willy Adames
LF: Tommy Pham
CF: Kevin Kiermaier
RF: Austin Meadows
DH: Avisial Garcia
Starting Rotation:
1. Blake Snell
2. Charlie Morton
3. Tyler Glasnow
4. Ryan Yarbrough
5. Yonny Chirinos
Offseason Grade: B
Prediction:
The Rays had a surprising run at the end of the season last year and had a slim chance of making the playoffs. Ultimately they could only get 90 wins and missed out of the playoffs because the A’s had 97. Unlucky, but I do see the Rays having similar success this season. They will finish 3rd in the AL East, but they will miss out on the playoffs once again. The Rays are a fun underdog team so it sucks they will miss out.
