Back for another installment of my MLB Offseason Breakdown for the 2020 season. If you are new here, what I do is write about all the acquisitions and losses the team had, my projected lineups and rotations, grade for the offseason, and my prediction for the team in the 2020 season. Let’s get into it.
Offseason Acquisition and Loses:
Miami trades a minor league prospect for 2B Jonathan Villar
Miami looks to improve their team any way they can and I like this move. Villar was the best player in Baltimore last season, not like that’s a huge accomplishment, as he had career-high numbers in home runs and RBIs. Villar will be a good veteran to have teach this young team.
LF Corey Dickerson signs a 2 year $17.5 million contract
The Marlins make another good move by signing Dickerson as he is a very underrated player. Dickerson has always been an under the radar kind of guy and I don’t know why as he had good career numbers. Over 7 years in the MLB, Dickerson’s slash line is .286 .328 .504 and he has an average of 16 home runs and 53 RBI’s a season. Very good value pick up for Miami.
2B Starlin Castro signs a 2 year $12 million contract with Washington
The only reason why I’m bringing this up is to say that the Marlins are very dumb. They should have traded Castro last season during the trade deadline and get some value for him. Now they are left with nothing as he joins their division rivals and defending World Series Champions.
Projected Lineup:
C: Jorge Alfaro
1B: Jesus Aguilar
2B: Isan Diaz
3B: Jonathan Villar
SS: Miguel Rojas
LF: Corey Dickerson
CF: Lewis Brinson
RF: Brian Anderson
Projected Rotation
1. Sandy Alcantara
2. Caleb Smith
3. Pablo Lopez
4. Jose Urena
5. Jordan Yamamoto
Offseason Grade: B
2020 Prediction:
There’s very little to really say about this team. They were tied for their third-worst team in baseball last season and not much has improved with them. Right now their focus should be on developing their talent because they will finish 5th in the NL East once again. Now they might get more than 57 wins this season, but no more than 65.
