I am very happy that Sandy is back with the Mets and I love this move. Alderson was the GM of the Mets from 2010-2018 where he had to leave the team for unfortunate issues and decided not to come back. Alderson was a really good GM for us over the span of those years bringing us back to the playoffs for two season and making the World Series in 2015. Not to mention, almost all the players we have now is due to him. Big meat Pete, deGrom, McNeil, Syndergaard, Gimenez, Lugo, the list goes on. He knows talent when he sees it. It should also come to no shock that Alderson returned to the Mets because he loves this team. In an interview with the New York Post in 2019, Alderson says
Alderson said he intends to commute from New York for the time being and will keep an eye on his former players — the younger ones in particular.
“There are guys that are close, like Peter Alonso, that I want to follow,” Alderson said. “And [Jeff] McNeil was a revelation last year. And [Brandon] Nimmo, [Amed] Rosario and [Michael] Conforto could be big contributors. I’ll certainly follow the Mets.”
New York Post Interview
Sandy loved the players he put together on this team and now he is back to see them in action. FYI, I don’t recommend actually reading that article because it’s about Sandy Alderson’s biggest regret, which was not signing back Daniel Murphy after his 2015 World Series run. It was a hurtful article to read remembering how good Murphy was in 2016, but we are onto bigger and better things.
I am just happy to have a smart baseball mind back in the top position of this team. Since Aldweson stepped down from the position, the Mets front office has been a living hell. His first replacement was interim GM John Rico who was awful not knowing what he can and cannot do, but then came BVW. Brodie tried to ruin everything Sandy built here with the Cano trade and Lowrie signing. The only good thing Brodie has ever done is resign deGrom and get J.D. Davis, other than that he was useless. Now we can kick Brodie to the curb and sign some stars. Sandy now has unlimited money to sign whoever the hell he wants. The Mets are going to be a wagon.
PS: I will not comment on the NL Cy Young race, but I will say I am leaning towards this being a fraud season and if Jake does not win it, then he will three-peat in 2021.
