MLB 2021 Offseason Breakdown: Baltimore Orioles

We are now onto my least favorite edition of the MLB Offseason breakdown because over all the years of doing these breakdowns, Baltimore has always sucked and I never know how to spell their names. Too many vowels, so if there are any spelling errors for Orioles do not yell at me. I warned you.

Acquisitions and Losses:

Freddy Galvis signs a 1 year $1.5 million contract
Just like last season, the Orioles did nothing this offseason to improve their team and it shows as Freddy Galvis was their biggest money signing this offseason. Galvis will be a fine shortstop for Baltimore for the time being, I guess. Its no money on a one year contract. No harm, no foul.

Maikel Franco signs a 1 year $800K contract
The Orioles decided to reunite the left side of the Phillies infield from 2014-2017 as they signed Franco to an unfairly cheap deal. Franco played well in role last year with Kansas City as the third baseman had a .278 batting average to go alongside 8 home runs, 23 runs, and 38 RBI’s. A very good signing for Baltimore at very little money.

Projected Lineup:
C: Pedro Severino
1B: Trey Mancini
2B: Yolmer Sanchez
3B: Maikel Franco
SS: Freddy Galvis
LF: Austin Hays
CF: Cedric Mullins
RF: Anthony Santander
DH: Ryan Mountcastle

Projected Rotation
1. John Means
2. Keegan Akin
3. Dean Kremer
4. Jorge López
5. Felix Hernandez

Offseason Grade: D+

2021 Prediction:
For those keeping track at home, that’s two straight D+’s for the Baltimore Orioles. They do very little to actually improve their team in the offseason and it will show once again as, shocking, they will be in last place in the AL East. They have the young players that will be fun to watch, like Trey Mancini returning from cancer treatment this season. I expect him to comeback in full force like nothing ever happened and win comeback player of the year. That’s easy money right there. You also have pitchers like John Means and Keegan Akin, who seem to be some very solid pitchers for years to come. They have some good talent, but that talent only covers 5% of the team. Hopefully prospects like Ryan Mountcastle pan out because they are still lightyears away from being a .500 team.
