Noah Syndergaard is back! This news came out of nowhere, but I have no problem with it. I do have a lot of emotions about his return and it is pretty funny that he is just returning in a game that means nothing, but I am excited to see him come back. Syndergaard is a fun pitcher to watch in my opinion, no matter how bad he might be. He might not have been the best these last couple of seasons, but I still find enjoyment watching him smoke pitches by players (I know he won’t be doing that today.) It also makes it very interesting to see how he pitches because I am pretty sure he will not be able to throw any sliders, so it will be a fastball/change-up rotation for Thor.
So with Syndergaard coming back to pitch for the first time since 2019 and him not being able to throw one of his best pitchers, what should we expect from the former All-Star? Nothing. He will most likely suck tonight, giving up multiple runs, but what’s there to lose. The season’s over. The only thing that truly matters is draft positioning, but like most fans, I could care less where we pick in this year or any MLB draft. (People complaining about that on Twitter are either super hardo baseball fans or nerds.)
Another reason why it doesn’t matter is that it’s Syndergaard’s last year of his contract. He’s a free agent. If he sucks we know we don’t need to sign him. If he pitches well, we could sign him for a low contract and hope it pays off for next season. Then there is the worst-case scenario that I will not write because I do not want that to happen. So I hope everyone is happy that he is back. I know he hasn’t been the best the last couple of seasons, but be happy that he gets to go back on the field and show off what he might still have.
