Uncle Stevie Is Making Those Money Moves

That’s fucking right. Uncle Stevie is making those money moves. Every Mets fan that was bitching and moaning about the Mets doing nothing this offseason can finally shut the hell up. Steve Cohen is here this offseason to spend an ungodly amount of money to make this team better.

IF Eduardo Escobar: 2 Years $20 Million

This is how everything started yesterday. The Mets get a solid bat in Escobar and after having his best season in the MLB last year, I am very excited to see what Escobar does. Escobar is a player who can hit for power and has a good slugging percentage, but what I like about him most is he can almost play any position in the infield. The Mets can play him anywhere in the infield and I can feel confident about it.

OF Mark Canha: 2 Years $26.5 Million

This might not be the sexiest move in the world, but it’s still a great deal for the Mets. Mark Canha is Billy Beane’s wet dream. Canha is one of the best on base percentage guys in the game, having a .344 OBP through his 7 seasons in the MLB. Pretty fucking good in my opinion. Also, just like Escobar, Canha can play any position in the outfield, including 1B. A very good defensive player to add to our team on a low risk contract.

CF Starling Marte: 4 Years $78 Million

Finally, the signing of the day (technically it happened after midnight, but that’s semantics). The Mets go big with Starling Mart and I couldn’t be happier. Now if we are being honest, Marte was not even in my radar to begin this offseason, but I love the move. Marte can do everything on the field. He can hit for contact, he does not strikeout much, he’s a real centerfielder, and he can steal bases. It great to have Marte added to this outfield, especially after this report from Ken Rosenthal.

Not only are these good moves by the Mets, but their strategic moves. Billy Eppler is trying to make this team look more sexy to other free agents and adding players like Marte and Canha to your outfield will do just that. Our outfield is already way better than it was last year, defensively, and now we have 3 guys who can get on base.

If Nimmo is still on our team by the start of the season and is starting, out starting outfield will have an average OBP of .381. You love to see that and the craziest thing of them all is Nimmo had the best OBP of the three. We are going to have a very solid outfield for this coming season, and hopefully Nimmo plays better defensively now that he isn’t in centerfield.
