Let me get this off my chest at the beginning of the blog, I am writing this at 10:00 AM on a Monday because I am getting cocky. I am confident that the Mets get this deal done and I am fucking ecstatic. We are going to get the guy who has dominated us for years. Scherzer has a career 2.68 ERA in 26 games against the Mets. I went to the game in 2015 as a birthday gift and saw Scherzer’s dominance as he threw a no-hitter against my team. Scherzer has dominated my life, but now he’s on my team and I couldn’t be happier.
I also could not care about the contract length. I’m not spending any money here. Uncle Stevie is using his money and he said in the past he does not care about spending over the salary cap. 3 Years, $43.3 million is nothing for Steve Cohen. He wants his team to win now and adding Scherzer will do just that. We are a whole lot better now that we have 2 of the top starting pitchers in the MLB on our team. Scherzer and deGrom are going to compete for Cy Youngs for the next 3 seasons and probably hate each other by the end of it. and it’s not like Scherzer is regessing. He just finished top 3 in the NL Cy Young this season. He’s still showing that he’s one of the best pitchers in the MLB and I cannot wait to see what he does for this team.
Now, what’s left for the Mets. We definitely need to find bullpen pitching. Losing Loup is a huge loss, but relief pitchers can be replaced. We should be looking into trading a guy like J.D. Davis and get a solid relief pitcher in our bullpen. Then they should look at signing other relief pitchers. I wouldn’t mind if we bring back Jeurys Familia. Familia had a solid season with us so let’s bring him back for a 1-year deal. We should also go after Raisel Iglesias because he has been a very solid relief pitcher most of his career. Getting him will make our bullpen a lot better and should be our #1 priority.
