Here we are, folks, the most important game for the franchise since the 2016 Wild Card game against Green Bay, and the Giants will have to give their all to beat this stacked Eagles team. I have so many nerves going into this game and even contemplated dying my dick blue. The Philadelphia Eagles feel like an almost perfect team. The Giants’ defense might be in trouble with their duo receivers, who both had over 1000 yards receiving, and their running back, who had over 1200 yards. The Eagles’ offense has the potential to kill us, but where I feel confident in their offense is not 100%.
Let’s start with Jalen Hurts. Every week since he injured his throwing shoulder in week 15, we were told that there was a chance Hurts could return. Well, he didn’t come back until a meaningless week 18 game against the Giants, and I feel like the Eagles have more concern about Hurts’ shoulder than they are letting on. In that week 18 game, Hurts didn’t light the world on fire and let a third-string-led Giants stay in the game. We will know if my theory is correct during the first couple of drives and if Hurts is running. If Hurts stays in the pocket and the Eagles are conservative with him, the Giants will have a strong chance of winning this game. It also helps that Lane Johnson missed the end of the season with a torn groin, and it feels like an injury like that doesn’t heal itself right away.
And what I love about where we are is we are almost all healthy. Outside of Azeez Ojulari, who hasn’t been able to stay healthy all season, we have no one on the injury report. We will be able to throw our best against their best. In our first matchup against the Eagles, we got blown out 48-22. It was not our best performance, but we missed key defensive players. We were without Leonard Williams, Adoree Jackson, and Xavier McKinney. You can make the case that these are our best defensive players, not named Dexter Lawrence. We should be good if Wink Martindale can figure out a suitable scheme against this Eagles team as he did against the Vikings.
Now what does concern me is how good the Eagles’ defense is. The Eagles had 70 sacks this season, which is the third most in NFL history, and had multiple players with double digits sacks. This is concerning because our offensive line is not the best. They’ve been playing a lot better at the end of the season, but I am still scared. The Giants and Daniel Jones need to ride this momentum from last week if they want to keep up this star-studded Eagles offense. Brian Daboll and Mike Kafta must play this game aggressively if they’re going to win this game, and I truly believe they can.
The Giants also have a weapon that hasn’t been used all season, and it’s now time to unlock it fully. He caught a great catch against the Eagles week 18, and last week he had the block of the game. The Giants should put Kenny Golladay into their game plan and see what he can do. He has all the talent, give him a very short leash and see if he can earn his contract. Despite how bad Golladay has been, he’s probably the most talented receiver on the Giants (Hodgins makes a strong case.) Let Kenny cook.
